Barite
Natural barium sulphate supplied in two distinct grades. Drilling grade is produced to API Specification 13A for use as a weighting agent in water-based and oil-based muds. Filler grade is ground and classified for use as a high-density, chemically inert extender in coatings, plastics and heavyweight concrete. The two are not interchangeable; state the application when enquiring.
On API grading. API 13A specifies density, water-soluble alkaline earth metals, and particle size distribution. It does not specify barium sulphate content. Certificates are issued against the four parameters above.
